7 Kickass April Fool’s Day Pranks Devised By Tech Companies

Tech companies and Their Sense of Humor

Tech companies have actually chalked out some elaborate plans to amuse people this April Fools Day.

1) Google Nose

1) Google Nose

Google has always devised some interesting pranks for April Fool’s Day and this year is no exception. This time, the Internet search giant has come up with Google Nose and claims people will be able to smell things that they search, thanks to this new initiative. The company has also posted a YouTube video – so that users will quickly fall for this prank.

2) Nokia 3310 with PureView

2) Nokia 3310 with PureView

The Finnish smartphone-maker had launched Nokia 3310 in 2000 and it happens to be the most successful Nokia device till date. The company has now announced on its conversations blog and Twitter that it is introducing Nokia 3310 with a 41 MP PureView camera.

The post on the Nokia conversations blog goes on to elaborate that “Nokia engineers have achieved the unthinkable [with Nokia 3310 with PureView by] scaling down a dual-core processor, 2 GB RAM and 32 GB of on-board storage into a case that mimics the original size (113x48x22 mm) and weight (133g).”

3) Pokemon Challenge

3) Pokemon Challenge

Taking a cue from last year’s Treasure Hunt, Google has launched the Pokemon Challenge this year. For this, Android and iOS users will have to upgrade their Google Maps and then go about finding Pokemon. The game is for real but alas, there is no Pokemon to be found as it is just another April Fool’s Day prank by Google.

4) Samsung Fingers

Samsung Fingers

Samsung is cashing in on the recent craze regarding wearable technologies even in its April Fool’s prank. According to the Korean company, it has introduced Samsung Fingers, which is the “first all-over-hand wearable device featuring a flexible Super Emo-LED for the technology-sensitive consumer.”

Talking more about the product, the company shares that Fingers is the slimmest (0.2 mm) and lightest (1 gm) wearable glove by Samsung and comes with a wide 3-inch flexible UHD Super Emo-LED display. Combined with an advanced 16 megapixel camera, Samsung Fingers offers the best-looking selfies you can ever get your hands on. Samsung Fingers also supports the latest, fastest networks including 5G and Wi-Fi 902.11wz, so that you can keep in touch with the latest.

5) HTC Gluuv

HTC Gluuv

HTC has tried to do something similar to Samsung with its Gluuv. This Gluuv, as per HTC, will let users connect to HTC One (M8) and interact with social networks via gestures.

6) Gmail Shelfie

Gmail Shelfie

Guess Google is really going all out to make sure that people will fall to one of its pranks, if not all. The Gmail Shelfie is another interesting prank by the Internet search giant, through which it communicates that Gmail has turned 10 (this part is actually true) and to celebrate this day, it is launching Gmail Shelfie.

In a blog post, Google explains, “When custom themes launched back in 2012, we urged you to find ‘your perfect image and make Gmail your own.’ And you did. Many of you rushed to take photos of yourselves to upload as your Gmail custom theme, which you started referring to as selfies.“You all love setting selfies as your custom theme in Gmail, but you’ve told us there’s one major problem: There isn’t a way to share your selfie with others. As the pioneering platform for selfies, Gmail is committed to being at the forefront of innovation in the selfie space. And we think it’s a tragedy that your handsome hair, luscious lashes and beautiful brows have been trapped in your own inbox. Until now, that is. Today, we’re proud to free your selfies by launching Gmail Shelfie, the SHareable sELFIE.”

7) Calorie Browser

The popular third-party mobile browser, UC Browser, has also launched its ‘revolutionary’ Calorie Browser that helps you burn calories while you surf the Web. A lot of people on the social network claim to have fallen for this prank.

Few more pranks:

The Pirate Bay

By using the skills and knowledge of Russian, Israeli and Japanese neuro scientists, the website claimed that it is "developing a device that will embrace your entire mind. Using laser projections directly onto the retina it'll no longer be any resolution but 100%. The sound will be delivered in a range from 12Hz to 79kHz and will cancel all noise from the outside world."

"Using a simple plugin into the brain, you will no longer only be able to see and hear a movie, a game or whatever it is you want. You'll be able to live it. Play the main character. Tweak any story in any way you want."

If this wasn't enough, the post on ThePirateBay.Se went on to say that "every part of The Pirate Bay will be stored within you and everyone else that dares to participate in this step into the future. The more we are, the faster everything will be. Our scientists calculate that if we become at least 1 333 337 nodes, everything will be shared instantaneously."

Virgin Mobile Canada

Virgin Mobile Canada is another company that is using wearable tech in this year's pranks. Smartkicks, which comes in separate variants for women and men, allows users to call home, vibrates when it's time for a meeting or an appointment on one's calendar, and charges one's smartphone on the run. Shoppers can choose between sneakers called SmartSneak and Stillettos called Smart-Letto, which also have Bluetooth speakers for some nice music.

Check it out here.

Flappy Board

Well, everyone else is making knockoffs of Flappy Bird, why not the media app Flipboard? Instead of keeping a bird airborne, in Flappy Board, you navigate a winged Flipboard logo between a series of pipes. So, when will Flipboard launch its knockoff of Threes?

QWERTY Cats

Another from Google: a virtual keyboard for cats. The company is also working on versions for dogs, hamsters and fish, according to a description on the Chrome Web Store.

Sony Crunchy Loops

According to Sony, food doesn't just have to restore energy in humans. The company unveiled Sony Power Foods that will fuel people and their gadgets. Available in cake mix, protein energy bar and, my favorite, Crunchy Loops Cereal. But does it get soggy in milk?

Titanfall expansion: More than meets the eye

Like the NERF Nuke, there are some April Fools' pranks that you really wish were true. This spoof expansion of first-person shooter Titanfall introduces Autobot leader Optimus Prime from Transformers' fame.

LinkedIn for cats

LinkedIn thinks it's time to make your professional social network experience more pawfessional (no, they really used that word). So, they introduced LinkedIn CYMK (Cats You May Know), a better way to stay connected with cats. LinkedIn has more details on its site. Plus, you can never have too many cat puns.

A scaled-down spin on Uber

Picture using the car service Uber, only you're picked up by a driver sprinting down the street in a cardboard car. Oh, you're also sprinting along with the driver in a pair of shoes provided by Uber. This is shuberX. "Great for the environment, even better for your calves," says Uber.
